Still slogging along on Take Care of Your Shareâ„¢

Posted on Feb 18th, 2007 by backyarder1 : Freelance Thinker backyarder1

I spent almost all day yesterday changing the content on my Take Care of Your Share™ website. I also started sending information about it to every state and to other various levels of government and to various media sources.

I'm still looking for offers of help. Haven't had any yet accept someone that offered to help me with a logo. I'm hoping to have some t-shirts and maybe other things printed by Earth Day (I believe it is April 22nd).

One thing I need help with right now is people searching the net helping me to find links that should be on my site. I am only looking for organizations whose prime purpose is to actually educate people and not just ask for money. There is a fine line sometimes. I don't want to mention any specific organizations but if you look at the webpages of some of the more well-known environmental group, the pages have an awful lot of advertisements, requests for donations or items for sale AND very little actualy information.

I also need to move the site somewhere - godaddy I think. The place that I have it hosted has a tendency to go down a lot.

Below is the message I have been sending out. Any comments are appreciated:

For Immediate Release:

Being Green and helping the environment is such a hot topic, that even the non-tree huggers are looking for ways to pitch in and do their part. I believe that this is a critical time to have the information they need readily available.

There is an extensive amount of information on the web, much of which was created by various government organizations. I believe that the US Government should create a central website that provides information that people need to Take Care of Their ShareTM of the environment and I am encouraging various organizations to help me make that happen. In the meantime, I have created and maintain a website myself to try to get this information out to the public.

Take Care of Your ShareTM Campaign

http://www.takecareofyourshare.com/

Initiated by Betsy S. Franz

Backyarder1@earthlink.net

Objective: Educate and encourage each property owner in the country to "Take Care of Their Share"TM of their local environment by practicing environmentally sound actions in their own homes and yards.

Result: Improved wildlife habitat, cleaner air, less pollution, etc. etc.  Sense of personal responsibility to the environment instilled in all property owners by supplying them with easy access to information that will allow them to Take Care of Their ShareTM.

Proposal: US Government should provide a central Take Care of Your ShareTM website that has links to the various government departments that provide the information residents need to become effective environmental stewards. These departments would include natural resources, conservation, native plant societies, fish & wildlife departments, cooperative extension system offices, solid waste departments, water management, etc. In order to be most effective the site should ONLY provide links to official organizations whose purpose is to provide information and not contain sites with advertising or whose purpose is to raise funds for environmental organizations.

Residents could be notified about this central site through handouts at building and utility departments, driver license bureaus and other government offices. Each state should also provide their own Take Care of Your ShareTM page to provide regional information.

Goals: Initiative from whatever level of government is necessary to encourage participation by local state governments.

Funding to assist with creation of web pages and distribution of materials

Multi-media campaign to spread the word to Take Care of Your ShareTM.

Motivation: There is a huge amount of information available to help educate people about how to Take Care of Their ShareTM of the environment. Much of it has been created by scientists and members of numerous government organizations. However, the information is spread out and very difficult to find.

The recent trend towards personal environmental responsibility makes this a vital time to have the information available to those who seek it. Local governments have the resources of trained scientists, ecologists, horticulturists and others in fields that can provide this information. Having it available and easily accessible to the public could play a tremendous role in the preservation of our country's natural resources.
